Today in 1943, the Magnuson Act was signed into law. It repealed the Chinese Exclusion Act, forbidding Chinese immigration to the U.S., and provided for the naturalization of some Chinese immigrants already in the U.S. for the first time since 1790.
Chinese Americans still couldn’t own property in many states, and new visas for Chinese immigrants were limited to 105 per year until 1965.
